Position Overview
The Operations Lead – Tanzania is a senior management role responsible for the end-to-end oversight of all fleet and border operations in the country, covering both company-owned and subcontracted fleets. The role carries full operational accountability, with a focus on efficiency, optimization, and strategic growth. This is a high-visibility position requiring a leader capable of engaging confidently with top management, commercial teams, clients, subcontractors, and government authorities.
The individual will take ownership of operational performance, compliance, and governance, while driving continuous improvement, process optimization, and expansion initiatives. The role requires a strategic thinker with operational expertise, capable of delivering tangible results while balancing day-to-day operational challenges with long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all Tanzanian operations, ensuring safe, timely, and compliant execution of trips across both company-owned and subcontracted fleets.
- Take full accountability for operational delivery, incident response, and escalation of critical issues.
- Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop the Tanzanian operations team, fostering a high-performance culture, collaboration, and accountability.
- Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders, including top management, commercial teams, clients, subcontractors, and government authorities, influencing decisions and aligning operations with strategic objectives.
- Continuously analyze operational data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities; implement changes that enhance resource utilization, speed, and accuracy.
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and procedural requirements, maintaining robust governance, documentation, and reporting standards.
- Drive operational optimization initiatives, expanding capacity, improving processes, and maximizing fleet performance.
- Maintain high standards of operational integrity, safety, and risk management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven senior-level experience in transport, logistics, or fleet management, including cross-border operations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, influence, and drive results across teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record in operational optimization, process improvement, and team performance management.
- Strategic thinker with commercial awareness and the ability to make high-stakes decisions under pressure.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of interacting confidently at executive levels.
- High integrity, accountability, and ownership mindset; self-motivated and able to operate independently.
A results-driven, commercially aware leader who can take full operational ownership, drive efficiency and growth, and influence senior stakeholders.
