Key Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to roadside breakdown calls and provide on-site mechanical assistance.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Inspect and Diagnose:
- Thoroughly inspect diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and other mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems on Trucks and Trailers
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify problems and malfunctions.
- Interpret diagnostic test results to determine the root cause of issues.
Repair and Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
- Repair or replace damaged or worn-out components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering systems.
- Overhaul or rebuild diesel engines and other major components as needed.
Testing and Troubleshooting:
- Test-drive vehicles to ensure proper performance and identify any remaining issues.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems.
- Follow checklists to ensure all critical parts are examined.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on vehicles.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and repair plans.
Interactions:
- Consult with drivers to understand their needs and explain repairs.
- Provide clear and concise explanations of technical issues and solutions.
- Collaborate with the dispatch team to prioritize calls and manage response times efficiently.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a diesel mechanic training program or apprenticeship.
- Relevant experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance.
- Red Seal Diesel mechanic certificate
- Trade related certifications
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, their components, and related systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to perform physical tasks.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license (Code B or C) with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
